Green Room - Frequently Asked Questions

Question Answer
Why do I need to do a Green Room production? Thame Players require that any member who wants to direct a full production, first directs a shorter production to be performed in front of a few of the other members including more experienced members (usually long-standing directors or committee members).
What does doing a Green Room production involve? It involves putting on a small production and covers the entire process, from the initial announcement and casting call, through casting, rehearsals and a single performance.
How long should a Green Room production be? There is no exact requirement for the piece to be of any particular length, but it needs to be long enough for you to show off your directing skills. For instance there are a great many one-act plays which would be suitable but something as short as ten minutes would probably not be long enough for the characters to develop.
Is there a budget available for props, scenery, music etc.? Whilst there is no budget specifically identified for Green Room productions, small purchases can be made although it's nearly always best to talk to either Colleen or Steve first to find out if we already have what you want.
Do I need to produce a programme? No, a programme is not absolutely necessary, but it would be nice for the audience to have a small, A5 information sheet giving such details as:
  • The running order if there is more than one Green Room being performed
  • The title of the work or works to be performed
  • The playwright
  • Any licence permissions
  • Where and if necessary, when the action takes place
  • The Cast
  • Any Crew
  • And most importantly, WHO THE DIRECTOR IS!
